IPBES 12 Biodiversity- our official UN Delegations 2026

 Twelfth  session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), 2-8th February 2026 in Manchester UK.

“The Green Economics Institute sent a strong team to the recent United Nations meeting in Manchester on the science of biodiversity (3rd-8th Feb). This was the twelfth meeting of the Intergovernmental science-policy panel on biodiversity and ecosystem services (IPBES). Established by Governments in 2012, it provides policymakers with objective scientific assessments about the state of knowledge regarding the planet’s biodiversity, ecosystems and the contributions they make to people, as well as the tools and methods to protect and sustainably use these vital natural assets.
UK Nature Minister Mary Creagh said “The UK is proud to host #IPBES12 in Manchester, bringing together the world’s leading scientists and policymakers to tackle one of the defining challenges of our time — halting the loss of nature. Nature underpins our economy — from the food we eat to the air we breathe. This meeting is a vital opportunity to turn global ambition into impact, both here in the UK and around the world.”
Among the most important agenda items for the 12th session of the IPBES Plenary was the consideration by the member States of the landmark IPBES Business and Biodiversity Assessment Report. Key messages from the meeting can be found on the IPBES website https://www.ipbes.net/.
The GEI team were able to talk to government representatives from around the world and hear their views on how their governments are contributing to this important work.”

iPBES 10 Biodiversity our official UN Delegations

We were delighted and honoured to take part in IPBES 10 United Nations Scientific Conference on Biodiversity in August/ September 2023.

 

As well as the stakeholder day too.

This is the second year we have attended and are grateful to be able to participate and help save the worlds biodiversity after pointing out 20 years ago that we were entering the 6th ever mass extinction of species we are sad that we have been proven correct. Watch this space for further predictions.

The IPBES 10 dealt with invasive introduced species yesterday including the Water Hyacinth, the Lion Fish.the Pond slider, the latana and Red Fire Ants  all introduced and causing havoc to nature.
