The 93% Club is a national social mobility network dedicated to levelling the playing field for students who were educated at state schools.
Students attending university from state schools often lack the same level of social, human or cultural capital as their more privileged peers from privately educated backgrounds. These differences can often be attributed to the lack of opportunities for extra-curricular programmes available for these students at school. These activities are proven to provide personal enrichment and the skills students learn from them are absolutely crucial for broadening their horizons both professionally and personally.
As the name suggests, this society aims to represent the interests of state educated students, who account for 93% of the population but face exceptional inequality when it comes to obtaining opportunities at university and in the workplace.
The data on education inequality is both eye-opening and overwhelming. This is because privately schooled students, despite representing just 7% of the secondary school population, account for 74% of judges, 61% of Fellows of the Royal College of Physicians and over 50% of Cabinet members. The 93% Club aims to redress this gap by giving university students from disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds the opportunity to participate in workshops, seminars, social events and activities that are geared towards equipping them with the necessary skills to become serious competitors in the job market.
We put our money where our mouth is.
When we turned The 93% Club into a national organisation, we decided to create a new commercial model unlike any other social mobility organisations in the UK. Our unique charitable social enterprise structure allows employers to invest in our young people knowing that 100% of their money is going into making a difference.
